An official meeting of the Parliamentary Working Group on Gagauzia (PWG) took place on, 11 July 2023, during which the members of the group, members of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and members of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, together with the PWG Secretariat and experts from CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, discussed the priority topics on the PWG agenda and approved a number of joint decisions.
During the meeting, the Working Group members decided to create a bureau for translating the normative acts of ATU Gagauzia, as well as draft normative acts and opinions sent to the Parliament and Government in Romanian and Gagauz language, according to the legislation in force. The aim of this decision is to improve the quality of the legislative process. At the same time, the Group adopted a decision recommending the Government of the Republic of Moldova to organise specialised courses in the field of lawmaking in Romanian language for specialists working in public administration bodies of special level, within the National Programme for the study of Romanian language by national minorities, including the adult population, for 2023-2025. The Group also voted for a decision recommending that the Executive Committee of Gagauzia organise specialised courses in the field of lawmaking in the Gagauz language for specialists working in public administration bodies of special level.
Also during the meeting, the participants voted the Working Group’s Strategy and Communication Guidelines to strengthen communication with the general public, discussed the Action Plan for the effective functioning of the Working Group and practical mechanisms for the implementation of the consultation package, as well as current topics related to the field of education to improve the well-being of citizens.
The representatives of the Parliament and the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia reiterated their commitment to a permanent and constructive dialogue on the Group’s platform, in order to find compromises on issues of interest and overcome various challenges.
The Working Group is the only permanent dialogue platform between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, composed of legislators from Chisinau and Comrat. Regular meetings of the Working Group are facilitated by CMI within the framework of the Swedish-funded project “Gagauzia Dialogue”, where it provides expert support to the dialogue process.
